TxDOT is adding lanes on Interstate 10 between Houston and San Antonio to improve connectivity and add mobility to this important hurricane evacuation route. Part of this project encompasses the four-lane bridge over the Brazos River just east of Sealy, Texas.

The bridge is 44′ wide and 360′ long, and ATI was tasked with removing the concrete bridge deck.

ATI operators cut the deck into blocks along with the Jersey barrier wall. Care was taken to make sure the bridge structure would support the concrete and any equipment that was on the deck while work was being completed. The cut sections were later hauled away.

ATI was awarded this part of the contract because of the safety and speed with which they could compete the job, and because their method would prevent debris from falling into the waterway below.
