Why Contractors Choose ATI for Design Build, DOT Bridge & Highway Projects

As the prime contractor, if a subcontractor fails, that's on you. Here's how to tell a good sub from one who'll blow your schedule.

Lane Closure & Night Work Windows Headaches

THE PROBLEM
Miss a closure window and it's gone — along with your schedule, your budget, and your standing on the project. Bridge and highway work runs on DOT schedules, and lane closures open and close whether your sub is ready or not. A sub who can't work shifts or mobilize fast will cost you the window and the relationship.

HOW WE HANDLE IT

We Close Windows — and Shrink Them

We don't just meet closure windows — we have a track record of shrinking them. And working next to live traffic demands more than standard safety protocols — we know what those situations require and how to execute them.

Damage to Rebar, Beams or Surrounding Substrate

THE PROBLEM
Damages mean stress, delays, change orders, delayed pours, & costly repairs.

HOW WE HANDLE IT

We Protect What the Next
Pour Depends On

Unlike a chipping hammer, hydrodemolition protects surrounding substrate, beams, and rebar — and leaves a surface profile 50% stronger, meaning a better bond, a longer-lasting repair, and fewer callbacks.

We can also help you identify where hydrodemolition works to your advantage — sometimes it's the move that speeds the whole project up, not just the demo phase.

Bridge Widening Pains

Compliance Gaps & Liability Exposure Nightmares

THE PROBLEM
When something goes wrong on a project, the liability doesn't stop at the sub — it travels up to you. You're not chasing paperwork or hoping we're covered.

HOW WE HANDLE IT

We are Insured, Bondable & Prequalified — Before We Ever Mobilize

We give you a layer of protection before work ever starts. We are bondable upon request, fully insured, and prequalified. If that doesn't give you confidence, our safety record will.

Transportation Infrastructure Services

From bridge deck hydrodemolition, concrete cutting, concrete removal on waterway crossings, to pile cutting — we bring the skills, talent, equipment and experience that transportation infrastructure work demands.

Bridge Deck Hydrodemolition

The gold standard for bridge deck rehabilitation. Our robotic hydrodemolition systems remove deteriorated concrete to exact profile depths, leaving rebar untouched and surface prep complete for overlay installation.Bridge Deck Robotic Hydrodemolition — The Problem Solver

Delays, extra closure windows, and unforeseen structural damage are the three things that will blow your budget — we help you avoid all of them. Hydrodemolition replaces the chipping hammer with high-pressure water — faster, cleaner, and no damage to rebar, surrounding substrate, or beams. Nothing else comes close.

Concrete Pile Cutting

ATI's patented pile cutting technology safely can remove hundreds of piles per day- Bridge construction and replacement

projects, whether above water, at water level, or submerged. One operator. Maximum results.
PILE CUTTING →

Bridge Widening Concrete Removal

Manual chipping on a bridge widening is slow, labor-intensive, and the vibration can damage surrounding substrate — one wrong strike can compromise the beams.

Hydrodemolition eliminates that risk. Faster, cleaner, with anchor bolts exposed cleanly and rebar protected. The result is faster timelines and shorter road closures.
BRIDGE WIDENING →

Tunnel Hydrodemolition

We operate in tunnels of every type — highway bores, pedestrian underpasses, and rail tunnels. Confined spaces, complex projects, curved surfaces — we've seen it all and have the equipment to match. From full-scale systems to smaller rigs on spines and scaffolding, we fit the job. We can also capture, treat and recycle the water onsite!

Core Drilling & Bridge Penetrations

Creating penetrations in bridge piers, abutments, and retaining walls for drainage, utilities, or structural modifications. We drill cleanly and accurately through ANY concrete thickness.
CORE DRILLING →

Wire Sawing for Structural Cuts

When a bridge element needs to be cut out completely — a damaged pier cap, a failed abutment section — wire sawing allows cuts that no other method can make safely in a structural context. We work over water, in tight structural conditions, and anywhere precision removal is non-negotiable.

Who Brings ATI Onto Transportation Projects

ATI is a specialty subcontractor. We work for the contractors who win the transportation contracts.
  1. Contractors & Prime Construction Firms

The most common path: a contractor wins a bridge rehab, widening, or highway project.
They need concrete cutting, concrete removal, selective demolition, hydrodemolition or pile cutting- they call ATI.
We integrate into your construction schedule and execute the concrete specialty scope without needing to be managed.
***Note- Not all specs will include hydrodemolition. It’s the tight timelines and need for better project outcome requirements make this option a game-changer!

  2. Specialty Contractors with Concrete Sub-Scope

Marine, bridge, and specialty civil contractors bring us in when they need a qualified sub for GPR scanning, concrete removal, concrete cutting, selective demolition, and hydrodemolition.

We work all over the US!

  3. Construction Management Firms on DOT Programs

CM firms managing multi-prime transportation programs often need a concrete specialty sub they can engage directly. We hold the certifications, insurance, and bonding capacity to make it work.

  4. P3 Concessionaires & Design-Build Joint Ventures

On P3 public-private partnership and design-build-finance-operate projects, we work under the concessionaire or DB joint venture executing the contract, not the DOT. We have executed concrete specialty scopes on P3-delivered highway, bridge, and managed lanes projects where DOT oversees but private capital funds.

We don't pursue the DOT contract. We pursue the relationship with the contractor who wins it. When your bridge or highway scope includes concrete removal, concrete cutting, selective demolition, GPR Scanning, pile cutting, or hydrodemolition — we want to be the sub you've already decided to call before you even get the award.

Public-Private Partnership (P3) Transportation Projects

Not every modern transportation project is DOT-funded. On P3 highway, bridge, and managed lanes projects, the DOT typically oversees and regulates. But a private concessionaire or design-build-finance-operate joint venture holds the contract, brings the capital, and selects the trades. We have executed specialty concrete scopes on P3-delivered transportation projects, and we understand what makes a P3 schedule different from a traditional DOT delivery.
WHAT CHANGES ON A P3

The Contract Holder Isn't the DOT

On a P3 transportation project, the concessionaire or DB joint venture is the entity we work under. Approvals, change orders, payment schedules, and closeout documentation all run through the private concession structure. We are set up to integrate with that procurement model from day one.
DOT STANDARDS STILL APPLY

DOT Standards Still Apply

Private funding doesn't change the standards. Hydrodemolition specs, rebar preservation, lane closure plans, and safety prequalification still apply — and so does the expectation that the structure lasts. On P3 work, longevity matters more, not less. Our compliance package satisfies both the private developer and the DOT.
WHERE WE FIT

Managed Lanes, Toll Roads & P3 Bridges

Whether it's DOT-funded or privately financed, you get our best crew, our best equipment, and our full commitment. We've been on P3 highway, managed lanes, and bridge rehab projects across the country — and we bring everything that makes those jobs go right, every time.

ANOTHER SUCCESS STORY

"Due to the scope of work and because we are trying to keep as many of the existing structures as possible, we knew we had to think more creatively. We were exploring innovative solutions and learned about the hydro demolition and knew it would be a great fit for what we need to get done."

— Ignacio Milans, CEO of NTI CIP

Frequently Asked Questions About Bridge Concrete Work

Common questions from contractors & CM firms evaluating ATI for DOT bridge, highway, and tunnel scopes.

What is bridge deck hydrodemolition and why is it specified on DOT projects?

Bridge deck hydrodemolition is a concrete removal method that uses high-pressure water, typically 20,000 to 40,000 PSI, to remove deteriorated concrete from a bridge deck without damaging the underlying rebar. State and federal DOTs specify hydrodemolition on bridge deck rehabilitation projects because it preserves the structural reinforcement, creates an ideal bonding profile for the new concrete overlay, and eliminates the vibration and rebar damage risks of mechanical demolition. ATI operates a robotic hydrodemolition fleet engineered specifically for bridge deck profile work to exact DOT specifications.
